As reported by The Warp and confirmed by Deadline, “The Crown”, the 21 Emmy Award-winning series, will pause filming of its sixth and final season due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II this Thursday, September 8. The oldest reigning monarch in the world ascended the throne in 1952, she will now be succeeded by her eldest son, King Charles III.

The Queen is the central axis of the British drama, which tells the entire story of the royal family from the youth of Elizabeth II to the arrival of Lady Di. However, despite the temporary hiatus in filming this sixth season, the Netflix title will premiere its fifth batch of episodes next November.

For this premiere, the drama will change its cast again.. Due to the passage of decades within the series, the production team is forced to change the entire cast every two seasons. Imelda Staunton will star during this fifth season, while Jonathan Pryce will play the role of Prince Philip. They will be joined by Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowlesy and Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major.

Until the date, Claire Foy (“The First Man – The First Man”) and Olivia Colman (“The Favorite”) were commissioned to bring Queen Elizabeth II to life in “The Crown”. Both actresses managed to win the Emmy Award thanks to their great performance during the real drama. In film, Helen Mirren won the Oscar for bringing the monarch to life in “The Queen (The Queen)”.
