‘Pinocchio’, the new live-action version of the popular Walt Disney movie, is now available exclusively on Disney + on the occasion of Disney + Day. According to early reviews of the Rotten Tomatoes film, the adaptation directed by Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis (“Back to the Future”, “Forrest Gump”) it has disappointed most of the critics in the specialized press.

Most reporters say that ‘Pinocchio’ is unable to even come close to the level of the original version.. During the review on his YouTube channel, Dan Murrell expresses the following opinion: “In a word, minor. No part of this film that replicates the original is better. And the additions are worse than anything else in the original movie “. Even the small nuances added to the characters compared to the second Disney feature are not liked at all. Tessa Smith, in her review for Mama’s Geeky, states this “hardcore fans will be frustrated by unnecessary changes”.
For its part, Digital Spy, notwithstanding highlight the work done by Tom Hanks (“Saving Private Ryan”) as Geppetto, he assures us “irony of fate, this new version of ‘Pinocchio’ never comes to life”. However, the harshest criticisms come from Josh Wilding and Carson Timar. The first, in its review for ComicBookMovie.com, states the following: “We’re not sure how we got here, but yeah, Disney just ruined “Pinocchio”. A film that looks like it came out of the studio without even bothering to finish it before streaming it, this remake will crush longtime fans and disappoint everyone else. Happy Disney + Day “. In turn, Timar writes in ButteredPopcorn: “Aside from the Pleasure Island star segment, this is a really boring feature film that takes all the problems from the original film and makes them stand out even more”.
There are also some good reviews
Just like most critics are hard on “Pinocchio,” there are some who have been much kinder to the film. First off, we have YouTuber Grace Randolph, who perhaps gave one of the best reviews the film has ever gotten: “Absolutely adorable, not to mention it’s a step above what a direct-to-stream movie is.. Tom Hanks is always great, but here Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Keegan-Michael Key stand out. He definitely has Disney magic! “.
Finally, Dave Lee states this “it is a sweet and fascinating narrative that gives life to an iconic story, albeit with often strange choices”. Plus, Lee adds that “it never manages to touch the magic of the classic, even if it’s a pretty fun Disney remake”.
