Warner Bros. is having a busy summer with the drastic decisions of David Zaslav, the new CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, to reduce the company’s exorbitant debt. The DC universe is particularly upside down, embroiled in controversies like the cancellation of the ‘Batgirl’ premiere or the entire criminal story of Ezra Miller, who at least already apologized and assured that he will seek help. Zaslav wants his superhero franchise to be more like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is looking for someone to take care of finding cohesion and a long-term plan for Batman and company. A name has already cropped up, producer Dan Lin, but has yet to be confirmed as the chosen one.

But whoever turns out to be DC’s new “Kevin Feige” will face many obstacles in securing a more organized and connected future for DC. Variety also points out that Warner Bros. is not at all happy with the decision to publish “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” last year on HBO Max. Several company executives complain that the release of the Snyder Cut only served to give more gas to Zack Snyder fans.who not only remained dissatisfied, but redoubled their efforts to ask the studio to return the reins of the franchise to them to allow them to continue with their Snyderverse plans as part of the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse campaign.
Without a doubt, the Snyder Cut premiere hasn’t diminished fan criticism of Warner Bros. Nor does it help anything like the cancellation of “Batgirl” or the Batman dance they’re doing with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck. Keaton would appear in “The Flash” and “Batgirl”, as well as in a scene from “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”. In the latter he was replaced by Ben Affleck so as not to confuse the public anymore. Both Bruce Wayne will be seen in “The Flash”, which due to a recent date change will be released before the “Aquaman” sequel. The film with Ezra Miller is expected on June 23, 2023, while the Jason Momoa film will be released in theaters on December 25, 2023.with the idea of repeating the success of the first during the Christmas period.
Although Zack Snyder has finally managed to release his ambitious version of “Justice League”, even if it was streaming, he doesn’t seem very keen on returning to Warner, no matter how much fans ask for it. The director has found an important ally in Netflixwith whom he started the zombie franchise ‘Army of the Dead’ and is also preparing his ‘Star Wars’ with ‘Rebel Moon’, an ambitious space movie that includes Charlie Hunnam, Sofia Boutella, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman or Alfonso Herrera.
A chaotic DC universe
The future of the DC universe after “The Flash” and “Aquaman and the Lost Realm” is more uncertain. At the moment, only the sequel to ‘Joker’ with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is confirmed, which in principle is not part of the main franchise. Matt Reeves is also preparing the sequel to “The Batman” and the spin-offs Penguin and Arkham Asylum, which form another independent storyline. And on HBO Max there are several projects still in the works, although the safest is the second season of ‘The Peacemaker’. It’s not clear what the idea is from there because this planning doesn’t seem cohesive and connected.
