Horror movie with cursed or forbidden book stories

Throughout human history, through centuries and eons, forbidden knowledge has been written on the pages of the occult arts of the arcane and the apocryphal. In other words, there are fictional books that have been censored or cursed and then made into a movie.

The beyond

Over the years, this film has earned the status of a “cult horror film”. ‘The Beyond’ tells the story of a woman who wants to reopen an old hotel, where the gates of hell are located. The plot introduces the Book of Eibon, written by Clark Ashton Smithwhich belonged to the Circle of Lovecraft, one of the few stories about the Myths of Chtulhu.

It doesn’t matter if it’s Sam Raimi’s original horror film or Fede Álvarez’s remake, ‘evil DeadI trieda on the curse of the Book of the Deads, an ancient collection of Sumerian knowledge, and which Lovecraft once again took as inspiration for the story of the Necronomicon.

The Ninth Gate

Based on Arturo Pérez Rverte’s novel, “El Club de Dumas”, this film is about a rare book hunter. ‘The Ninth Gate’ is a film with Johnny Depp on the macarone, a cursed book linked to the devilof original name ‘De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis’ (The Nine Gates of the Realm of Darkness), where it is said to contain spells to summon the devil.

1984

Based on the novel of the same name by George Orwell, the film “1984” is about Winston Smith and which has access to “Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism” by Emmanuel Goldstein, one of the books banned by the state, within the imaginary dystopia of la plot.

The Rosemary Child

In “Rosemary’s Baby” the protagonist receives the book “All of Them Witches” by JR Hanslet, a mysterious work in which black magic and portraits of sorcerers and witches were hidden. Interestingly, Rosemary is warned that the title is an anagram of something about to happen, “Hell of a Cometh Swift”.

The Mummy

Finally, one of the least expected on the list is “The Mummy” in which the Black Book of the Dead appears, which contains forbidden Egyptian knowledge, and which we have also mentioned before. With this compilation, Imhotep wants to bring his beloved Anck-Su Namun back to life.
