Aubrey Square joined the cast of the director’s ensemble Francis Ford Coppolathe project of passion Megalopolis, on which it was in development. Plaza joins Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon VoightAnd Laurence Fishburne.
Coppola’s film tells the story of an architect who dreams of a utopian version of New York City in the near future and his battle with the conservative mayor, who has other ideas about the city. Within the epic is contained a myriad of plots and characters. “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its social problems in this epic story of political ambition”.
Coppola also described the film as “a love story. A woman is torn between loyalty to two men. But not just two men. Every man comes with a philosophical principle. One of her is her father who raised her, who taught her Latin in her womb and is devoted to a much more classical vision of society, the vision of Marcus Aurelius. The other, who is the lover, is the enemy of the father but is dedicated to a much more progressive ‘Let’s take a leap into the future, let’s jump over all this garbage that has contaminated humanity for 10,000 years. We discover who we really are, that we are an enlightened, friendly, joyful species. ‘”
Coppola independently finances the film, which will be for just under $ 100 million, and production will begin this fall. Coppola has been working on this film for a long time and the fact that he independently finances the film tells you how passionate he is about it.
Hope this inspires his longtime friend Giorgio Luca to start making films again. I’d love to see Lucas make the kind of movie he was doing before Star Wars took control of his life.
