Screen Media bought the distribution rights from the manufacturer Roger Cormanunreleased action comedy by Virtually heroes, which was made ten years ago, and was also an official selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Despite its premiere, it never got distribution. The film was directed and produced by GJ Echternkamp (Franco and Cindy) and stars Roberto Baker (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Brent Chase (Shameless), Katie Savoy (how I Met Your Mother), And Marco Hamill from Star Wars fame.
The film “centers on two self-aware characters in a ‘Call of Duty’ inspired video game as they battle endless enemies and their own existential crises. With the help of the monk Yoda of Hamill, they attempt to win the game and take the girl.
Screen Media said of the deal:
“We are thrilled to bring this lost Corman project to our audience. The film is a perfect blend of action and campy and ironic comedy, and is sure to delight viewers, whether this is their first foray into Roger Corman’s world or their 50th.
Echternkamp added:
“Virtually Heroes was an ambitious project in many ways, and not quite what you would call a conventional film. I’m so happy that Screen Media is finally taking this cult film out of the shadows and onto their platform for new audiences to discover. “
Virtually heroes will have a limited theatrical and digital release this December. Can’t wait to check out this movie?
