Recently Sari’s appearance in ‘Prey’ reminded all those inseparable canine companions of her protagonists who have appeared throughout the history of cinema. And that is why we have collected these puppies who have stolen the hearts of viewers in these action movies.
Sarii-Prey
At first, Sari, the dog protagonist of ‘Prey’, I wasn’t going to play a big part in the final story. However, audience reactions led director Dan Trachntenberg to choose to give Coco, the real name of Amber Midthunder’s partner, more screen time. Available on Star +, Hulu and Disney +.
Cha Cha – John Wick
Basically the three “John Wick” films revolve around the loss of the character’s wife of Keanu Reeves and his puppy, who is killed by a gang of thieves who break into the protagonist’s house. Fortunately, the protagonist finds new company in Cha Cha, a pit bull that appeared in the sequel to the action film. Available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Ruffy – Dante’s Peak
In the story of the action film starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton, there is a moving scene in which Ruffy, a Portuguese podengo, jumps before being consumed by the lava in “Dante’s Peak”. While this sequence required more pooch help and Tito, Rosa and Nikki were Ruffy’s doubles. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
Butkus-Rocky
Although some call their dogs after the film saga with Sylvester Stallone, the name of the Rocky Balboa’s huge dog is Butkus, a Bullmastiff adopted by the actor’s family, who survived an ostrich attack and a fall on ice. Unfortunately Stallone sold it for money problems and returned it 6 months later. Butkus died in 1981.
Abbey – I am Legend
The adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novel, in which Will Smith plays the protagonist, also had Abbey as the star of ‘I’m a legend’, a German Shepherd who plays Sam, Robert Neville’s inseparable companion. This cute little dog died in 2020 at the age of 13. Available on HBO Max.
Hero – Love and monsters
Finally, in the action film starring Dylan O’Brien, the hero accompanies the protagonist, an Australian Kelpie specially trained for his scenes, although given their intensity, the production had to resort to a double in order for the protagonist to to chill out.
