It is quite common that many of the films with true stories usually bring raw, strong stories to the screen that end up being quite bitter; but there are some who, on the other hand, make us see a light in the midst of adversity and who give hope and faith in humanity.

Between films based on real events that give hope to humanity, many stand out that they deal with true stories that happened in wartime. This is the case of ‘Until the Last Man’ by Mel Gibson, played by Andrew Garfield in the role of Desmond Doss, a man who, far from going to “defend” his homeland, joined the army to save lives in the Second World War. The true story of Demond Doss is that of a young American Christian who joined his country’s military troops on one condition: he would not carry weapons. His goal was to save lives, and he did: he helped more than 70 soldiers survive by taking them off the battlefield alone when the battalion abandoned them when they started losing combat in Okinawa.

Schindler’s List – Netflix

Another of the films with true stories that attest in humanity is ‘Schindler’s List’, the famous film directed by Steven Spielberg which starred Liam Neeson in the role of Oskar Schindler, a Czech businessman who helped Jews during World War II prevent them from dying during the Holocaust in the concentration camps.

Oskar Schindler’s story can be summed up in his help to the Jews during World War II: he made them his legal employees and then they became untouchable by the Nazi army. Originally, he was only doing this for financial gain, but it was later revealed that he hired far more people than necessary and faced German agents with bribes to prevent his workers from being harmed.

Gandhi – Amazon Prime Video

War films are not the only ones to sometimes have messages of faith, there are also others such as ‘Ghandi’ which is part of the biographical dramas that leave people hope. In this Richard Attenborough film played by Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi himself, the man who led India to independence from the British crown.

Ghandi has been a point of reference for peaceful protests and demonstrations, as it was his “peaceful civil disobedience” that proved the key to generating change in India and organizing his community and country to go against the monarchy.
