Emotional streaming war movies about sacrifices on the battlefield – Courtesy (Netflix)
Cinema has seen the arrival of endless war movies on both the big and small screen and even on streaming platforms. The latter have some tapes of this type that tell of the sacrifices soldiers had to make on the battlefield to survive, some real and some fictitious, but always emotional and moving.
To a man
The film that gave Andrew Garfield his first Oscar nomination was ‘Until the Last Man’, a work by Mel Gibson that brings the true story of Desmond T. Doss to the big screen: a man who enlisted in army during World War II, but which refuses to bear arms and decides that it will only go to the battlefield to help and save lives. Available on HBO Max.
1917
Many of the war movies that are emotional, they end up giving that poignant feeling because they are based on true events about the sacrifices many soldiers made to enlist or while on the battlefield. This is the case of ‘1917’ where director Sam Mendes portrays the memories of his grandfather during the Second World War. Available on Netflix.
Save Private Ryan
Steven Spielberg’s classic ‘Saving Private Ryan’ starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, is also one of the emotional war movies inspired by true stories and I’m streaming. The film is based on the story of four brothers who went to war and only one of them was thought to have survived, when in fact they were all alive, but unaware of the others. Available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The pianist
Maybe one of the more raw and exciting war movies that cinema has seen the birth is Roman Polanski’s ‘The Pianist’. The story of this film tells the way in which Władysław Szpilman, played by Adrien Brody, tried to survive the famine, cold and poverty he found himself in overnight as a young Jew and Pole in the middle of World War II. It’s on Netflix.
Schindler’s List
Another of the most moving war films in the history of cinema is ‘Schindler’s List’, also by Steven Spielberg. For this film, the director decided to work with Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a real man who saved many Jews from the Holocaust during World War II by hiring them as workers in his company. It’s on Netflix.
Halfway: Battle in the Pacific
Also included in the HBO Max offering is “Midway: Battle in the Pacific”, starring Ed Skrein, Woody Harlenson and Patrick Wilson under the direction of Ronald Emmerich. The thrilling and raw film recalls the battle waged by the US military against Japanese troops in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
