If you want to check out some comic-focused Kickstarters, I have a small list you can check out. These include series and graphic novels of mostly smaller teams. They also vary in genre and style, so there is something for everyone. I know The Dancer has caught my attention. Do you see anything that catches your attention? What is a comic project that more people should know about?

The cargo rebellion: those who chose the freedom of Ben Barson, Jason Oliver Chang and Alexis Dudden

A new graphic novel of Robert Bowne’s 1852 rebellion in which contracted Chinese men overthrew their American kidnapper and slave trader.
Bold and thrilling, this graphic tale of mutiny on the high seas tells the true story of Robert Bowne’s rebellion of 1852, in which contracted Chinese men overthrew their kidnapper and slave trader, the American businessman, Captain Leslie. Bryson. This is opposed to American capitalism and the global economy which has profited from exploitation and death. This often overlooked part of the story comes to life through lively prose and a meticulous search for archival material, with a wonderful graphic illustration by Kim Inthavong. The Cargo Rebellion does lasting justice to the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Chinese and South Asian workers involved in the “coolie trade” in hopes of building a movement in which human slavery can be abolished forever.

The Dancer # 1-3: A psychological martial arts thriller by Kat Calamia

A dancer / MURDERER is forced to deal with the trauma of her childhood of witnessing the death of her parents.
They Call Her … The Dancer is a story centered on the beauty and brutality of dance and martial arts, delving into the morally gray psyche of a professional and murderous dancer. At first glance, They Call Her … The Dancer is about analyzing the similarities and differences between dance and martial arts. Dancing is something that is seen as beautiful, but many don’t think about the pain that is done to one’s body in order to be truly dancers. Martial arts are considered violent because they are a form of “fighting”, but there is also a dance-like quality in this work of art. It’s the penultimate issue and in this 23-page story Mia comes face to face with the daughter of the parents she killed. Will this be able to uncover the old wounds of Mia’s traumatic childhood?

But his recklessness finally reaches him in the form of Deacon, a mysterious and vengeful man from his past. When Deacon corners Bram and Faith, a kind girl with a tragic past, in the small town of Dusty Springs, Bram will finally be forced to discover that his actions have consequences … another question.

After SP: Zero’s Robot Apocalypse # 1

Set 57 years after the robot apocalypse, the last remaining mortals strive to survive and rebuild humanity.
I have been spray painting for about 10-11 years and when I started I was painting one character per wall, on a plain background. Eventually I got fed up with this and wanted to make each wall look like a comic book cover, so that each wall tells its own story. They were all set within a fictional story, which became After the Robot Apocalypse, and the idea was that there were things going on in the background and foreground that led the viewer to write their own story … but as I painted more and more walls and drew more illustrations with the same story, that story and their characters started taking on a life of their own and their stories needed to be told.

Amputation Capital by Neil Gibson, Raymond Tyler and Andre Risso

Amputation Capital is a dystopian present where celebrities and influencers sell body parts on a publicly traded leather market.
In the bad streets of the Hollywood Hills, a sleazy salesman is hiding waiting for the polite society to discard an apparently rich and powerful person. Alfie is that salesman, and a damn good sales and acquisitions agent that he is. Employing public opinion manipulation and arming tactics, Alfie offers you a contract. The contract is a simple exchange: Alfie wants your celebrity skin. Who would buy it? Maybe a rich fan, or a Hollywood museum, eccentric billionaire collectors, who knows.

Beardo 6 Graphic Novel by Dan Dougherty

A new collection of the award-winning insight into life comic on the hilarious sweet misadventures of parenting.
When I finished Beardo in 2017, the series was at the peak of its popularity, largely due to the final streak going viral with its sweet message about how fast time flows when you’re a parent. But when my son was born later that year, I realized my parenting misadventures cartoon wouldn’t be complete without him. So I’ve spent the last few years developing ALL NEW material and I’m very proud to announce this 150 page pocket graphic novel that collects over 300 strips and bonus content!
