Andy Serkis (Batman, The Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes) will present and direct an upcoming series on Marie Tussaud, the French artist known for her wax sculptures and the famous Madame Tussauds museum.
The series is titled Lady!and is described as an epic and gripping spectacle that “will shed light on this ruthless but pioneering businesswoman who built her business, starting in 18th century Paris, during the Age of Enlightenment, the French Revolution and the reign of terror, before traveling to England. “
I’m not very familiar with Marie Tussaud’s story, but it looks like it has a fascinating history! When talking about the series, Serkis said:
“This isn’t a real costume drama, it’s a hilarious, no holds barred, anarchist, punk madness conjured up by the curiously twisted mind of a fabulously post-truth hangman’s daughter! Marie knows one thing very clearly: if you’re going to tell your life story, make it fun, even if you have to make it up, and whatever happens, get rid of the boring bits.
So, it looks like this is going to end up being something pretty fun and Serkis looks excited to take it on! Rodolphe BuetCEO of Newen Connect, said the series “depicts a visionary heroine who shattered conventions in the 18th century and whose journey as a strong, independent woman who manages to build an empire particularly resonates today.”
Serkis has directed films such as Mowgli: The Legend of the Jungle And Venom: Let there be carnage, both disappointing films. Hopefully this series ends up being a good project for him.
