For more than two years, the Ministry of Culture has defaulted on payments for Mexican films produced by the extinct trusts FIDECINE and FOPROCINE. Now, producers and directors come together to demand compliance with obligations.

Through a press release, it was reported that since July 4th, Mexican film producers sent a letter to Alejandra Fraustro Guerrero, from the Ministry of Culture for the second time. On social networks, director Santiago Salinas said that more than 50 national productions have been stopped or affected by non-payment.

Both of them the trusts returned more than $ 300 million pesos to IMCINE to comply with the payment to Mexican productions. Two years after the promise made, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography reports that it has not received the corresponding resources.

Some of the 50 most popular suspended productions are Michelle Garza Cervera’s horror film ‘Huesera’, José Ramón Mikelajáuregui’s ‘Goya’, Janeth Paulina Mora’s ‘Huevos Divorciados’, Teresa Camou Guerrero’s ‘Cruz’, among many others.

The Ministry of Culture does not pay for Mexican productions

On November 18, 2020, the The Ministry of Culture has promised before the Chamber of Deputies that “the current commitments of FIDECINE and FOPROCINE will be 100% respected. IMCINE has the legal powers to directly support the production of films through tenders ”.

However, to date no solution has been found as to when the due payments will be made. The producers point out in the letter that the films are not only affected by their development, but by the economics of each “one of the Mexican families” of those involved in the project.

The producers explain that they received a response from María Novaro, IMCINE’s general manager, who said that the SHCP promised to immediately transfer the requested resources, which six months ago were reinstated in the trusts, about $ 300 million pesos. , but they make it clear that it didn’t happen.
