Director Quentin Tarantino is a huge fan of the director Joseph Kosinski And Tom Cruise’S Top Gun: Maverick. I have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t loved that movie. It’s so damn incredible, and I don’t know if we’ll ever see something like this again.
Tarantino was recently a guest on the ReelBlend podcast and during the show he was thrilled with the film and explained why he loved it so much. We all have our reasons why we loved the film, but one thing in particular that he focused on was the feeling that it was directed by Tony Scott. He said:
“I fucking love Top Gun: Maverick. I thought it was great. I saw it in the cinema. That is [Steven] by Spielberg History of the west side both provided a real cinematic spectacle, the kind I almost thought I’d never see again. It was fantastic.”
Tarantino went on to explain that the Top Gun the sequel was as close to a new Tony Scott film as audiences will ever get:
“There was just this adorable aspect, because I love Tony Scott’s cinema so much and I love Tony so much that he’s as close to seeing another Tony Scott movie as possible. [Director Joseph Kosinski] he did a great job. Tony’s respect and love were in every frame. He was in almost every decision. He was knowingly right there, but in this really great way that he was really respectful. And I think he was in every decision Tom [Cruise] made in the film ”.
Tarantino reiterated: “It’s the closest we can get to another Tony Scott movie, and it was fucking awesome.”
Tarantino had a small complaint about the film, which was the scene of the reunion between Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. He said it was “almost too cheap”. But the director went on to say that, despite that, it worked. He added: “But it absolutely works. It’s kind of like Charlie Chaplin dying on stage for the last scene of Flips… but it fucking works. You are waiting for it and the fucking scene satisfies you. It’s kind of funny that he complains about the scene, but then he likes it too.
Later in the interview, Tarantino called Steven Spielberg’S Jaws the “greatest movie ever made”. He said:
“Maybe not the best movie. But it is the greatest film ever made. And then there are other films that can enter its rarefied air. But as far as a movie is concerned, there’s no way to make it better than Jaws. There is no “better” than Jaws. It’s the best movie ever made. And it shows how wrong the timing of most of the films made before Jaws was.
Jaws it’s definitely one of my favorite movies ever. It’s one I’ve never seen on the big screen, but it will change soon as it will be re-released in IMAX theaters!
