According to JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and gaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, he responds to “the only way we’ve seen to make this a profitable business” and hopes that in this way they can offer everything for all people in one space. The service will be launched for now only in the US next summer and it has not been revealed what kind of contracts it will offer to users, although it seems that they are considering something more like a TV operator than current streaming systems: “we are exploring how to reach customers as free space and with advertising”Perrette said. On the other hand, David Zaslav, CEO of the company, confirmed that they will prioritize high-quality movie releases: “The goal is to make these films the best they can be”and added it “There is no comparison when a film is released in theaters. Expensive films go on streaming … we don’t find that there is economic value.”
After being launched in the United States in the summer of 2023, the long-term plan calls for it to reach Latin America in the fall of the same year. in Europe in early 2024, then in Asia that summer and in the rest of the world the following autumn. Currently in Spain, HBO Max has a monthly price of € 8.99 or € 69.99 per year and Discovery + is not available. In the US, HBO costs $ 14.99 per month without ads and $ 9.99 per month with ads and Discovery + costs $ 6.99 per month without ads and $ 4.99 per month with ads.
And what will it offer?
The company has released a chart of its brands “global power”highlighting in particular DC’s “Batman”, “Wonder Woman” and “Superman” franchises, along with HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, “Harry Potter” by Warner and Discovery’s “90 Day Fiancé” franchise, among others.

As for the name that the service will have, Warner Bros. says they are doing a report on the perception that consumers have of the HBO concept, to know whether or not to include it in the new title, although Perrett has assured that “HBO will always be the beacon and the definitive brand that represents the quality of television”even though it had what it describes as “performance and customer issues”, something they hope to deliver with the Discovery + infrastructure. In this second quarter of 2022 and according to Variety, between the two services, subscriptions increased by 22% compared to the previous quarter, which in numbers translates into 1.7 million more homes, closing with 92.1 million in total.
