About a week ago, a report surfaced in which a Marvel VFX employee complained about working conditions in the studio’s VFX department, stating that colleagues were crying and having panic attacks due to the insane workload. It’s understandable that Marvel employees feel some pressure, getting the top-notch cutting-edge work they do, but it also looks like a company like Marvel would be open to feedback like this to help the work environment improve. .
In response to the chatter, some members of the cast and crew of the upcoming Marvel series full of visual effects She-Hulk: lawyer weighed on their visual effects team. When a reporter asked him during a virtual panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour about their experiences with the She-Hulk Visual effects artists and “how do you feel about the finished product,” noting that “there have been numerous reports lately hosting visual effects … they feel incredibly crushed by the studios in general and Marvel continues to be called out,” star of the series, Tatiana Maslany told reporters:
“I feel incredibly, like, deferential to the talent of these artists and the speed at which they have to work, obviously, much faster than they probably should be given, in terms of how to turn these things out.”
Jessica Gaowho is the lead writer of the series, added:
“It is terrible that many artists feel rushed and feel that the workload is too massive. I mean, I think everyone on this panel is in solidarity with all workers and is in favor of very good working conditions ”.
She-Hulk director Kat Coirò noted that while he worked with the VFX artists on the show, “we’re not behind the scenes on these long nights and days. If they feel pressure, we stay with them and listen to them. ”
During the TCA panel, Maslany defended the visual effects of the show, which in turn were criticized, saying:
“I think we need to be super aware of how working conditions aren’t always optimal and that they have made these incredible strides in this industry,” the actor said. “I look at it and it doesn’t look like video game footage. I can see the character’s thoughts. I feel very in awe of what they do ”.
Coiro also criticized She-Hulk’s appearance in the series:
“I think this has to do with our culture’s belief in their ownership of women’s bodies,” she said. “There is a lot of talk about her body type. We based it a lot on Olympic athletes, not bodybuilders, but I think if we went the other way, we would be facing the same criticism. I think it’s very difficult to win when you create women’s bodies. “
I was really happy with the first trailer for She-Hulk. I think it looks like a really fun series and I can’t wait to check it out. I also hope that Marvel’s talented VFX team is able to get the support they need, because they are doing an amazing job over there.
She-Hulk was moved Wednesday from its original debut on August 17th to August 18th.
