After news about the project broke out, Sylvester Stallone, the franchise’s star and guiding light of the past fifty years, went public with his displeasure.
He did it again this weekend, first posting a series of stills that showed producer Irwin Winkler as a blood-stained vampire, apparently taken from Stallone’s character Rocky Balboa’s neck. The final slide shows Rocky, played by Lundgren in the 1985 movie, punching Ivan Drago. Rock IV.

Now Lundgren is trying to clarify his involvement and offer his point of view. There doesn’t seem to be any malicious intent between the two players.
“Just to break the record as a possible Drago spinoff,” Lundgren wrote on Instagram. “There is no confirmed script, no deal, no director, and I personally had the impression that my friend Sly Stallone was involved as a producer or even an actor. There was an unfortunate press leak last week. Please contact Mr. Balboa to give all fans a break…
It’s a sentiment that was confirmed in one of the two posts deleted from Stallone last week, where he said “I have nothing but respect for my true friend Dolph Lundgren” after challenging Winkler.
