Powell was hired by SAG-AFTRA as a broadcast business representative in February 2021 and was promoted to broadcast manager and worker advocacy in May. In this role, he managed and executed broadcast station contracts for the Seattle and Portland locations. He also served as the first multi-station collective bargaining chair and represented unit interests in complaints and allegations regarding unfair labor practices before state labor boards. He also advised local elected leaders in Seattle and Portland on station improvements, legal updates, and other local issues.
