In an interview for den of nerds for the first of ‘The man of sand’ on netflixscreenwriter David S. Goyer, said that this is the perfect time for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, thanks to long series and multiple seasons such as “Game of Thrones” or “Breaking Bad”, even “Foundation” in which Goyer worked recently.
The screenwriter confirmed this they started with the script for the second season of ‘The man of sand’, although its realization will depend on the success of the first 11 episodes on Netflix. Although, with the expectations placed on the fantasy series, we will only have to wait a few days to find out if it will continue, or if it will be part of the many titles canceled by the company.
In a way, it’s easier because we’ve educated the public on basic ideas. We have shown how dream life can affect the waking world. With that work done, the show can now build on those themes. ”
Furthermore, the writer adds: “They are more like jazz, where you can plan variations. And we can stretch our wings a little longer. ”It is worth mentioning that in the series of ‘The man of sand’, Neil Gaman confirmed that each of the 11 chapters will tell a different story, which connects to Morpheus’s adventure.
What will we see in “The Sandman” according to Goyer?
The writer himself states that, along with Neil Gaiman, they devised the Netflix series to be as faithful as possible to the original comics of “The Sandman”, although that hasn’t limited them to making some changes to different characters and storylines, such as the of Giovanna Costantino or Lucifer.
In this regard, he comments: “One of the things that is also inspiring and wonderful about Sandman is that it has a single author, but it has multiple artists,” adds Goyer. “So various artists portrayed Lucifer, or Morpheus for that matter, so part of our challenge was trying to figure out, well, what was the singular version? What version did we think was some kind of Platonic ideal?
Currently, the first season of “The Sandman” premieres its first 11 chapters on August 5 through the Netflix platform. With that, it is expected that the development of the second season will be officially announced in the days following its launch.
