Colin Farrell talks about his PENGUIN series and says he wants to star in the sequel to THE BATMAN

Colin Farrell enjoyed playing Oswald Copperpot aka The Penguin in the director Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and he’s excited to be back in the role! In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said he hopes to start filming his Penguin series for HBO Max in 2023 soon.

The spin-off series will focus on The Penguin and follow his rise in the criminal underworld of Gotham City. The project was described as a “Scarface-like “series. This is sure to be a great show, but Farrell also hopes his future as a character extends The Batman also the sequel. The actor would like to star in the sequel.

When asked if he would play Penguin on the big screen again in The Batman 2, said, “Oh my god, are you kidding me ?! It’s so funny, you’re kidding [with] myself? I’ve been around the block man. That was an easy sport, I mean… it was a joy ”.

Farrell went on to discuss the sequel, saying, “Matt is up to it, you know, he hovers over the keyboard and plans the story just because he’s so meticulous. He’s so obsessive about what he does, but it’s all over [HBO Max’s] Penguin [series] also. I mean, he’s not going to direct the film, but he’s all over the script structure and who’s going to direct them. And therefore, it’s exciting ”.

It’s great to see Farrell so excited to play this classic Batman villain! He is very passionate about it. Speaking earlier on the series, he said, “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that deserves a deeper look through Oswald Cobblepot’s eyes. I couldn’t be more excited to continue this exploration of Oz as he ascends through the dark ranks to become The Penguin. It will be nice to bring him back to the streets of Gotham for some madness and some chaos. “

I can’t wait to see how this Penguin spin-off series turns out. Lauren Le Franc is a writer and showrunner on the series, and said in a statement: “I’ve long been a fan of the world of The Batmanand Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I am thrilled and honored to continue telling stories in the filthy world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I’m thrilled to be working with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen. “

Reeves added: “Colin exploded off the screen as the Penguin entered The Batmanand having the chance to fully explore that character’s inner life on HBO Max is an absolute thrill. Dylan and I are so excited to be working with Lauren in continuing the story of Oz as she violently seizes power in Gotham. “

Everyone seems quite passionate about this Penguin series and I have no doubt that the character’s narrative arc will spill over into the sequel that Reeves is currently developing.
