Lore Olympus from Rachel Smythe took the world by storm when it first launched in 2018 on the WEBTOON platform. It has since attracted 1.2 billion global views and 5.8 million subscribers, as well as a multi-book deal and animated series in development. The world of awards took notice and Smythe won an Eisner for Best Web Comic for the Eisner Awards 2022. This is a huge win for WEBTOON’s community of creators and readers, this being the first Eisner for the platform. Hopefully this can help shed some light on some other comics on the platform because there are some really cool creators who deserve some recognition as well.
If you haven’t read Lore Olympus, is a modern reinterpretation of the relationship between Hades and Persephone. It has a really nice art style and Smythe does a good job intertwining elements of modern life with the life of ancient Greece. Every little praise for the comic has been earned, so if you’re into romantic dramas and mythology I can’t really recommend it enough. Volumes 1 and 2 of the graphic novel are now available in stores and you can find the entire comic on WEBTOON.
