The best year of video games is an interesting and often debated issue. You talk to a few people I know and if it came out after the SNES era, that’s not good. Others see anything before the last generation as garbage. Its large mix and video games have brought joy to many gamers over the years. Well, the Spades Challenge site has undertaken research to determine the best year in video game history. They analyzed the 2,000 titles that have the highest user ratings on Metacritic. It should be noted that when I looked at Metacritic, the first game I was able to find was Full throttle in 1995. It is the only 1995 game available and there is nothing on the site from before that that I could find. This means that the results of the Spades Challenge study will be skewed. That said, let’s see what they have to say with their top 10 year list.

As you can see, 2003 is the winner based on the data they used with 199 games in the top 2,000. This has been a really big year though Star Wars: The Knights of the Ancient Republic, Fire emblemand more liberation. Also, that was the year Valve released Steam. The second is 2004 with 168 similar titles Burnout 3: Elimination, Paper Mario: The millennial door, Grand Theft Auto San AndreasAnd Half-Life 2. Then, in 2005 we had 158 similar games Resident Evil 4 And The shadow of the colossus. It goes without saying that a lot of great games were released in the 2000s. That said, what’s your favorite year for video games?
