No more Quidditch? Harry Potter sport changes name after JK Rowling controversy – Flix Nation Special (Warner Bros | AFP)
The The “Harry Potter” story introduces Quidditch Sport, where wizards and witches ride broomsticks and try to score points with three different balls, its popularity has been so great with the saga that it has been brought to real life. However, it appears that the game has officially changed its name after the controversial positions of JK Rowling, the creator of this fantasy world.
It was 2005 when The sport of quidditch has been made official in real life, eight years after the first Harry Potter book published by JK Rowling and five after its arrival on the big screen. It has since been practiced professionally and there are also several official sports organizations that have taken the sport all over the world.
Until recently, the sport was still known as Quidditch, but it has recently become known the name has officially changed to quadball. Washington Post reveals that this decision was made after the directors of several official organizations and associations of the sport disagreed with the outrageous positions of the writer JK Rowling and did not want the game to be related to her.
The truth is Quidditch switched to quadball due to JK Rowling’s controversial positions Y also because another part of this decision is that they had lost advertising and broadcasting opportunities because Warner Bros owns the rights to everything Harry Potter and that prevented them from expanding.
Following this decision, Major League Quidditch and US Quidditch would be renamed Major League Quadball and US Quadball; The International Quidditch Assosiation is also expected to change to The International Quadball Assosiation, although the latter organization has not confirmed anything about it.
JK Rowling controversy
For a couple of years, JK Rowling has been making public what she “thought” or “thought” about trans people, defending a “biological” and therefore transodiant discourse. Through her social networks, the “Harry Potter” writer has made it clear that she allegedly supports the LGBTQ + community, but not trans people.
This hate speech has been condemned by many of the actors and actresses who are part of “Harry Potter”, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Many members of the Wizarding World fandom have opposed his claims and in some moments, like this one, even institutions and organizations have rejected his position and acted accordingly.
