The film centers on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who led the Manhattan Project that led to the creation of the atomic bomb during World War II. The film has been described as an “epic thriller that pushes audiences into the pulsating paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world to save it”.
The film is also the protagonist Emily Blunt in the role of biologist and botanist Kitty Oppenheimer, Matt Damon plays Manhattan project director Leslie Groves Jr., e Robert Downey Junior. he will assume the role of founding commissioner of the US Atomic Energy Commission Lewis Strauss.
Florence Pugh will play psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Sadi will play theoretical physicist Edward Teller e Josh Hartnet he will embody the pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence. The film is also the protagonist Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Michele Angarano, Alden Ehrenreich, Kenneth Branagh, Olivia Thirlby, And Matteo Modine. It is unknown who will play Thirlby.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book American Prometheus: the triumph and tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer from Kai Bird and the late one Martin J. Sherwin.
Oppenheimer arrives in theaters on July 21, 2023.
