The fifth season of “New Amsterdam” is approaching but with bad news for the fans: the actress Freema Agyeman, who plays the beloved Dr. Helen Sharpe, it will not be part of the last episodes of the series. She confirmed it herself with a heartfelt message on her social media in which she appreciates the support shown by the fans of this NBC series.

Through his Instagram account, Agyeman announced that he will not be present for last season: “Dear Dam Fam. First of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the unconditional and constant support you have shown me. It was brutal. I feel very fortunate to have come into contact with all of you in the past few years as I put myself in Helen Sharpe’s shoes: I felt all your emotional connection with her. What a trip! Thanks for joining me. It meant a lot to me, but it’s time to hang up the white coat. It’s official, I announce that I will not be returning for the last season of New Amsterdam. While I’m sad, as a fan I’m also very excited to see how the series ends. It has been a great pleasure to play Dr. Helen Sharpe for 4 seasons – our wonderful writers have built something great! I am so grateful to have been part of their stories! Fanfic: it’s up to you to tell the rest! Much love, family! “
For their part, David Schulner, creator and executive producer of “New Amsterdam” and Peter Horton, executive producer, released a statement in response: “We wish Freema the best of luck on her next stop and the doors of ‘New Amsterdam’ will always be open if she wishes to return!”Schulner and Horton wrote. “We are so proud of the impact Freema and Dr. Helen Sharpe have had over the past four seasons and we are so grateful to have been a part of that story. As we approach the fifth and final season, we want our #Sharpwin fans to know that we still have a few surprises in store for them”.

Season 4 ended on a tremendous cliffhanger leaving the future of Max (Ryan Eggold) and Helen in question. As the couple were preparing for their upcoming wedding, a hurricane suddenly changed course to head for New York City.. In the season finale, Max tries to find out if the flight Helen was headed for has been redirected, finally receiving a concise message: “I’ll call you as soon as possible.” When that call occurs, the news is not good, leaving marriage in the air. So #Sharpwin fans can no longer be left in suspense with the departure of Agyeman, which adds fuel to the flames of an already “complicated” situation. What surprises will Schulner and Horton refer to?
