Author Paul Tremblay recently revealed this to CNBC M. Night ShyamalanThe mysterious new film project to come is actually “a direct film adaptation” of his novel The hut at the end of the world.
Not much has been revealed about Shyamalan’s film, but now we know what the story entails thanks to the description in this book! The story centers on a family who is on vacation in a remote cabin in the woods. While there, four strangers carrying “unidentifiable and threatening objects” ask for help to save the world.
Here is the official description of the book:
Wen, seven, and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing in a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.
One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the biggest man Wen has ever seen, but he’s young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, “None of what happens is your fault.” Three other strangers then arrive at the cabin carrying threatening and unidentifiable objects. As Wen rushes inside to warn her parents, Leonard yells, “Your fathers won’t want us in, Wen. But they have to. We need your help to save the world.”
It definitely sounds like the kind of story Shyamalan would like to turn into a movie. The film has a great cast which includes Dave Battista, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ben Aldridge (Pennyworth) And Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter).
Speaking earlier about the film after the first week of filming, the director shared: “This week ended up a week on #knockatthecabin such intricate shows. Very dark and emotional movie. One take shook me so much that I had to leave to recover. I hope you will feel it too when you see it.
The film will be released in theaters on February 3, 2023 and I can’t wait to see it!
