Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman released a photo from a deleted scene from his horror movie Spiral: from the book of Saw. There was a torture sequence that was too creepy and the MPAA had it cut out of the movie

While a guest on Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew podcast, Bousman spoke about the scene saying:

“We cut a whole scene, a whole trap scene. Which was a huge kind of disappointment for me. We were having huge problems with the MPA. And I’m not even sure why, because I don’t think this is Saw’s most violent movie. But I think it might be the most widely accessible Saw movie in the way you have two big superstars [Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson] Continue Max Minghella who brings a completely different audience. I think the MPA was really on the offensive when they heard we were coming.

“There was a scene that took place in the third act, I won’t say who it was but another character dies. And it was by far the most creepy, 100%. He was also the meanest. We say: “The film can exist completely without this scene”. And in the end we lost it, I would say the last week before blocking the change. I’m happy for that actor because he’s now he’s survived. He now he can come back if there is another one.

Bousman went on to explain that the scene involved peeling a boy’s face:

“There were a lot of traps that weren’t cut, that we had ideas about, but there was just one trap that was shot and that was eventually cut. A boy’s face is completely … his whole face has come off. There was definitely some blood that was cut. “

The photo he shared on social media goes into a little more detail of the scene, and it was just the face of a character, the skin of his whole body would have been peeled off:

“SPIRAL. I’ve always had problems with MPAA. Nothing more than my fourth Saw movie. So, there was so much going on to get this thing in theaters … I worked with the master effects artist @ mindwarpfx for a decade and now … it pains me that many will never see some of the insane work he did on this film. There was a whole sequence of footage where the killer took a knife and pulled the whole skin from a body. It was so damn intense. Cutting the skin, muscle and fat to expose the skeleton. It was a thing of art. In the end there were only seconds left in the final cut. Thankfully, no one was vocal anymore. producer @orenkoules with the MPAA and fought tooth and nail to preserve every frame we could. Maybe at some point they’ll let me release the ultra hard-core cut … You can dream!

There are many movies out there that feature dead people who have been skinned. But I can go without seeing the actual act of peeling a person’s skin with a knife. It must have been an insanely intense and insane scene! Just look at that photo!
