The classification body assigned “Blonde” this category for the inclusion of disturbing images, as well as content of an explicit sexual nature. According to The Hollywood reporterNetflix had other NC-17 movies in its catalog, but the Ana de Armas movie “marks the first product to receive hard core rating”.

In an interview for vulture, Andrew Dominik shared his surprise at hearing the news: “I thought we were colored inside the lines. But I think if you have a group of men and women in a boardroom talking about sexual behavior, maybe men care what women think. It’s just a weird time. ”

‘Blonde’ with Ana de Armas on the darkest of Marilyn Monroe

As the creator mentions, ‘blonde’ It is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ bestseller of the same name.where, through its 700 pages, the mind of Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe) is explored, reimagines her life, as well as “exploring the division between her public and private life”.

“Blonde” was supposed to be released a few years ago on Netflix, however, there were several critical moments, but, for various reasons, it had to be delayed. Therefore, the director recalls how the #MeToo movement was a turning point in development: “I think we are now at a time when people are not sure where the lines are. It’s a film that definitely has a morality. But it swims in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it’s as simple as people want to see it. ”

Thus, the director himself explained that his film may not appeal, since “nobody cared about that kind of shit, what it’s like to be a loveless girl, or what it’s like to go through the Hollywood meat grinder,” although the performance by Ana de Armas aims to be nominated for an Oscar. “Bionda” opens on 23 September 2022.
