Anime Expo (AX) recently concluded its 31st annual convention. The latest event went back to being in person and brought together fans and industry professionals to celebrate Japanese pop culture in North America. At the conclusion of the four-day convention, the Japanese Animation Promotion Society (SPJA) hosting AX announced that it will launch anime expo (ax) this November. This will be a small-scale spin-off convention that offers another opportunity for fans to celebrate Japanese pop culture, it will only be in November in Ontario, California. The idea is that the ax will be more about the exhibition halls and artists alley rather than the giant panels. I can appreciate it a little. Ray ChiangSPJA CEO said:
Seeing our Anime Expo family once a year simply isn’t enough, which is why we’re incredibly excited to bring the brand new anime expo event to Ontario, California. Anime Expo 2022 was a success and we can’t wait to bring that positive momentum to this small-scale show that offers a unique and more intimate opportunity for Japanese pop culture fans to meet for the second time this time. year.
Interested fans can watch the ax from November 12-13 at the Ontario Convention Center. Tickets will be available in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled. What do you think of this approach to smaller conventions? I think they missed calling it Anime Expo Chibi, Chibi AX or something similar.
