From ‘Top Gun: Maverick’premiered in theaters, it sparked a furore that no one saw coming and that took many by surprise, because while it was expected by some, it was totally new to others. His great success has made everyone wonder what will happen to his story in the future and there are two big options: continue the legacy or finish it head on.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is the sequel to “Top Gun”, an action drama starring Tom Cruise which at the time was also a total success, to the point of being considered a classic of the Eighties. The new film arrived forty years after the original and, against all odds, had an even greater impact than the first in terms of audience response, critical evaluation and box office.

In figures, ‘Top Gun’ only managed to raise just over $ 300 million; while ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ earned more than a billion dollars, that is, the figure has tripled. As for the judgment of the critics: the film of the 90s reached only 57%, while the most recent one reached 97%. I mean, he really outdid himself in every way.

The great response the tape got has led many to want one third episode of “Top Gun”; however, some actors in the more recent film, such as Miles Teller, have commented that a new production would only be possible if Tom Cruise considers it a viable project.

And it is that the famous actor does not seem to be one of those who let themselves go only for the success of their projects: far from just trying to continue making money, he tries to see what possibilities there are for the new film to have an addition. plus, a contribution to the original story and, above all, surpass previous deliveries. If not … What’s the point?

‘Top Gun’, Take a chance or stay safe

The thinking is not wrong, because although Tom Cruise has made a franchise with ‘Mission Impossible’, it is a story that gives for that; while ‘Top Gun’ is a bit different: it’s not just an action thriller, but a drama with a linear story and plot that, if stifled by a franchise, could lose meaning.

That’s why the actor and, of course, Paramount Pictures, may be faced with a big crossroads: to face the pressure of creating a franchise that generates more revenue than could already be almost assured by the smash hit of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. or, he decides to close his story there to close the cycle with an acclaimed film like the latter.
