Disney’s animated classic The beauty and the Beast celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a two-hour special on ABC that is a live-action and animated hybrid. The “special will include unreleased live musical performances and will include brand new sets and costumes inspired by classical history. Each performance is created to pay homage and at the same time add to the iconic story for viewers back home. Songs from the original animated classic will be performed in front of a live audience at Disney Studios, although the special will not be shot live. “
The special will air on ABC on December 15 at 8 p.m. ET and will be available to stream the following day on Disney +. Jon M. Chu is executive producer with Hamish Hamilton aboard to direct. The cast of the special will be announced at a later date.
This will be the first hybrid special of its kind, so it will be fun to see what they come up with. I was a child when The beauty and the Beast it came out, and I was a huge fan of music and history. My kids also love the original, as well as the live-action movie, so I’m sure we’ll have fun watching it together. Will you tune in to your family?
