The premiere of the sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time is just five months away. “Avatar: Sense of Water” will be released in theaters on December 16, 2022. After the success of the first episode of “Avatar”, James Cameron has reiterated on numerous occasions that it will be a saga with at least two more episodes. Everything will depend on the success of the second part.

However, there is a concern: the duration of the film. We have seen how in recent years the highest grossing films have become the sea of the broad. As in the case of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stories of superheroes and heroines that span up to nearly three hours. Similarly, the director of ‘Titanic’ seems not to have wanted to break with his tradition, because since ‘Terminator’ he hasn’t made a film that is less than two hours, so we can already have an idea of how much it is. along Cameron’s film the new film can last.
In an interview with Empire magazine (via SlashFilm), Cameron wanted to anticipate the possible reactions that the first of the sequels could inspire due to its generous duration.
“I don’t want anyone complaining about the length of the movie when people stuff themselves with eight hours of TV … I can almost write that part of the reviews: ‘The agonizing three-hour movie …’. It’s like: give me a damn break! I’ve seen how my kids sit and watch five one-hour episodes in a row“.
thinking about streaming
With the advent of streaming, we find it fans can watch a 10-hour series in a row. We have seen it, for example, with the last season of ‘Stranger Things’ which, despite being quite long, has become an audience record on Netflix in no time. But the big difference, of course, is in the facilities and comforts offered by streaming. To be able to pause the series to cook ourselves or simply to go to the bathroom, which, of course, we can’t do if we go to the cinema.
Although Cameron does not offer a concrete solution, it does is favorable to onlookers who go to the bathroom even if it means missing a couple of minutes of the movie.
‘Avatar: the sense of water’ opens on December 16 this year.
