As a child I wielded a cardboard tube that I imagined was a lightsaber. Hell, I’m not going to lie… even today when I put my hands on a cardboard tube I still play it as if it were a lightsaber!
Well, Youtuber Joel Creates has taken the cardboard lightsaber to a whole new level! He has created a self-extending cardboard lightsaber that removes all that imagination. He calls it a “sleeping” lightsaber because it looks just like a paper towel tube!
Even though it looks like just cardboard, this thing has a complicated looking gizmo inside that Joel spent a lot of time creating and building. He used a combination of metal and 3D printed parts to create the contraption that could be hidden inside a paper towel tube.
It also includes motion sensors and a soundboard that activates lightsaber effects played through a 40mm headphone speaker as the saber was waved. But the coolest part is the hidden saber blade that automatically extends at the push of a button.
