“There is no time to die” marked the farewell to Daniel Craig’s character. As has happened with many others (Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore or Sean Connery) Craig will give up the baton to continue with the successful franchise. But times change, global consciousness evolves and some upgrades are needed for a character that lasts so long. “We are reinventing it”announced Barbara Broccoli, producer of ‘007: James Bond’ who, together with Michael G. Wilson, pampered the saga in this last phase. He did that in conversations with Deadline, where he went into this 007 review process.

Although the next project is already under consideration, it is still early to talk about names. “We don’t have anyone in mind”revealed the manufacturer. “We’re thinking about where the character will go, we’re working on it. There is no script yet and we still can’t think about it until we decide how to approach the next film. It is actually a reinvention of Bond. We are reinventing who he is and that takes time. I would say there are at least two years left to start shooting”. The truth is, producers won’t be in a rush when it comes to finding a new agent because they want to make sure they hit the mark like they did with Craig.
In a recent event at the Birtish Film Institute, Ralph Fiennes (who played Garteh Mallory, Bond’s superior in the latest installment) described Broccoli and Wilson as “the perfect example of producers” and praised his “transcendent tenacity” with his star character. Similarly, Ben Roberts, one of the BFI executives, defined them as “two giants of cinema” not just to keep the 007 flame alive, but for its independent film production beyond the Bond franchise.

That the new installment takes two years to start producing is certainly due to the exhaustive search for the new Bond (in addition to its aforementioned reinvention). As early as December last year, Broccoli herself revealed in The Hollywood Reporter the minimum requirement that the new agent had to meet. “It should be British and a British person can be of any ethnicity or race”. What is clear following her statements is that she will not be a woman. “I think it’s going to be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond. I believe in creating characters for women and not just women playing male roles. I don’t think there are big enough roles for women, and is very important.” for me we make films for women about women “.
Among the names that are being considered, one that has had a strong resonance in recent months has been that of Idris Elbabut the producer does not want to get carried away and will take the time to choose appropriately.
