‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’: its writer reveals a more “sinister” original ending.

Following its recent release in theaters, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now available on Disney +. The film directed by Sam Raimi It is the most terrifying installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its director’s footprint can be felt throughout the entire film, filled with eerie moments and creatures that seem straight out of “The Dead”.

In addition to reaching streaming, the sequel to “Doctor Strange” is also available for purchase through several digital platforms, which also includes a version with audio commentary. In it, Raimi, screenwriter Michael Waldron and producer Richie Palmer analyze the film, revealing previously unknown details about its production. ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’: its writer reveals a more “sinister” original ending.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ended relatively optimistically for Strange. After saving America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and stopping Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), the sorcerer returns to the reality of him and discovers at the last moment that the Darkhold has taken possession of him, revealing a third eye on his forehead like that of Strange Sinister, its evil variant corrupted by the Book of the Damned. However, in the first post-credits scene, where Strange meets Clea (Charlize Theron), who asks him to accompany her to another dimension to save the Multiverse, it appears that Stephen has not let himself be possessed by the curse and is still himself.

In the audio commentary, Waldron reveals that the outcome initially would have been much less rosy for Strange. “Strange gets stuck in the raid universe … and then Sinister Strange turns around and the third eye opens”explains the screenwriter. In other words, the end of the film would reveal a turning point Doctor Strange of Earth-616 and Sinister Strange were trading placeswhich would have meant much darker consequences for the character and his size.

In a previous interview with ComicBook.com, Waldron reveals that the ending, with the third eye opening and Strange dying of pain, is a Tribute at the end of “The Infernal Possession”, Raimi’s horror classic. Despite the fact that the post-credits scene shows us Strange seemingly well, that take portends complications. “He tells you things went wrong in the end”Waldron says. “But well, we’ll see what it means for Stephen”. Clea’s introduction to the Marvel Universe points to a third installment in which the two characters will unite (probably in more ways than one) to deal with the consequences of what was seen in the second part. Let’s hope it comes true.
