‘The Boys’: the ‘Herogasm’ scene that was (almost) too much for Amazon

Episode 6 of the third season of ‘The Boys’ left us one of the moments most awaited by comic readers: the ergasm, the orgy of sup. That roughly two-minute sequence includes flying dildos, ice dildos, telekinesis orgasms, good use of flexibility powers, and massive cumshots, but there was one scene in question that sparked great concern at Amazon, home to the series in its streaming platform. Eric Kripke, executive producer of “The Boys”, explained it in an interview with TVLIne: “We’ve had a lot of discussions on the scene with Deep and the octopus that Annie catches him doing it. For some insane reason, they have a standard policy against bestiality. They’re pretty stiff, really. ”

If you’ve seen the episode you will know that Kripke and her team eventually got what they wanted and this intimate moment on land and sea has come to the final cut: “The conversations about that scene and how we were going to accomplish it set off alarm bells on many levels in Amazon, why we shouldn’t show people fucking animals. My way of selling it has always been absurd, it could be in one of the Farrelly brothers’ films. It is difficult to consider it purely bestiality. It’s ridiculous. As far as I know, I think octopuses don’t even have holes down there. ” Finally, the scene was shot with a puppet that was digitally replaced by the special effects team in post-production.

According to the showrunner, the series is partly responsible for the streaming platform that creates a department called ‘Standards & Practices’, something like ‘Norms and Practices’, something that is more frequent on television networks and which serves to maintain a common policy and avoid legal problems: “I still remember the call”Kripke says, “It was a plan “Can you come? Because we have to create this department partly thanks to you. It was during the first season, but I think shortly thereafter another series also gave them problems. It is a badge of honor for me to have helped them create the internship department. ” The only note from Amazon that Kripke accepted and considered fair was: “At all times you have to understand that this is a superhero orgy, and not just a normal orgy.”

what has been left out

While there was ultimately no censorship from Amazon, Kripke admits that some original ideas and parts of the comics were left out of the orgy simply for practical reasons or because they didn’t fit well with the character development in the series. In another interview, this time with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke explains why he didn’t include the sexual relationship between Soldier Boy and the Patriot: “I love that scene and it’s hilarious, but for a dozen reasons, all of which will be revealed when you watch the season, it didn’t work out in the end. It conflicted with a lot of the other things we were trying to build with Soldier Boy. “. Jensen Ackles’ version of the character bears little or no resemblance to the one on the comic pages and is almost a male chauvinist embodiment of toxic masculinity, forgive the redundancy, and, indeed, he is an extremely conservative person who has conflicts with bisexuality, so he would hardly have agreed to maintain a homosexual relationship with Antony Starr’s character. Also not included is the rape of Hughie by Dark Black, probably, as indicated in Digital Spy, because the story of Hughie in the episode is centered around his relationship with Starlight and his fight with Patriot and a similar theme had already been addressed in previous episodes.
