The raid movies are two of my favorite action and director movies of all time Patrick Hughes (The mercenaries 3, The assassin’s bodyguard) is making a new one for Netflix with the producer Michele Baia. In a recent interview with CB, Hughes talked a little about the film and offered an update. One of the things he wanted to make clear was that this film is not a remake, it’s a retelling. He said:
“It’s not a remake as such, it’s a retelling and it’s taking what was so incredibly insane with that hook. It’s a very gritty real world in that. Getting into the direct action thriller, but it’s at that level of saga and it’s a project I’m really, really excited about ”.
The original film followed an elite Indonesian SWAT team who become trapped in an apartment run by a ruthless mobster and his army of assassins and thugs. This is easily one of the most hardcore and best action movies ever made. I really hope this retelling can reach the level set by the two original films.
The new film is set in the drug-infested “Badlands” of Philadelphia, and in it, an elite undercover DEA task force climbs a ladder of cartel informants to catch an elusive boss.
There isn’t much else that has been revealed about the story, but Hughes went on to say:
“There’s not a lot I’m allowed to say, but it’s something we’re really into … I’m excited because I’ve come out of a great series of action comedies and I love that genre and I’m definitely going to work. [in] again in the future but for now I have two projects and the other is a great action, science fiction, horror, thriller, survival, epic movie. There are just a couple of different genres that I want to get into for a while and then I’ll definitely go back to action comedy because it’s also a lot of fun to work with. “
The original Raid movies set such a high bar with action and I don’t know if this retelling will be able to reach that high level. I hope it does! We just have to wait and see.
