Months after the announcement, “The Paper House: Korea” has finally premiered on Netflix with all its episodes of the first season. This remake of the Spanish series of the same name has arrived on the streaming platform with a similar story but, also, with a great criticism of the capitalist system by which the world is governed.

Originally, the Spanish series of “La Casa de Papel” created by Alex Pina, tells the story of a group of criminals, La Banda, led by El Profesor (Álvaro Morte), who carry out a robbery at the Casa de Moneda y Timbre de España with the intention of stealing a good sum of living money at peace for the rest of your life.

Although the original story has a somewhat revolutionary touch, it is the Korean version of this popular Spanish production that manages to give it a stronger and more obvious message of protest: “The Paper House: Korea” has a critique of capitalism, a system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer; This is what many of his characters point out in the series.

In the Korean version of this series, it is shown how the significance of the robbery goes beyond just getting a gigantic sum of money: it tries to unite South and North Korea into something more than their economy, because in this story, it’s just money that is shared by the two nations that have been at odds for decades because one is ruled by a capitalist system and the other by a communist one.

In each of its chapters, the reason why each of the criminals who are part of La Banda has decided to join the robbery under the orders of the Professor is revealed; revealing their ideologies, goals and, of course, grudges that led them to become the criminals they are.

‘The Paper House: Korea’, critic, but without great success

Against the backdrop of the smash hit “La Casa de Papel”, the Korean remake was supposed to have the same impact and become a Netflix phenomenon as well. However, on the first day of its launch, it failed to grab the attention of the public, since it didn’t even manage to sneak into the top 10 of the most viewed movies and series on the streaming platform.

Also, the noise in the networks related to the series was really minimal, because although it managed to make a trend at some point; It did not reach the popularity of the Spanish version. While the case of specialized criticism, it got 88% in Rotten tomatoespoints well below 94% of the original production.
