More than a month before ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, the latest blockbuster of ‘Star Wars’, hit Disney +, actor Liam Neeson, who played Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn during the prequel trilogy, has fueled rumors about his possible appearance in the series with Ewan McGregor. Finally, this performer appeared by surprise in the ‘Derry Girls’ series, so his presence in the galactic series was almost entirely excluded.

But Lucasfilm always listens to his fans and, as some still hoped, Liam Neeson is back in the last scene of Part VI of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. And he did it as he could be expected to do, like a ghost from the Force.. “I thought you wouldn’t show up”Kenobi tells his master as if he pulled that phrase out of the mouth of every “Star Wars” fan who has been waiting for the return of the Jedi Master from his death in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”, directed by George Lucas and released in 1999.

Also, it wasn’t the only cameo, because another one that was much theorized and eventually came about is that of the Emperor. Darth Sidius, embodied as always by Ian McDiarmid, in the form of a hologram telling Darth Vader about his confrontation with Obi-Wan, is another big surprise at the end of the series.

As we said, Neeson spoke of a possible return as Qui-Gon. “Oh, I think so, if it were for a movie”commented in conversations with ComicBook last April. “Yeah, I’m just a little skittish when it comes to television, I admit. I just like the big screen, you know?”. Also, the actor wanted to point out how quickly time passed for him. “It’s amazing that it’s been 24 years since we made ‘The Phantom Menace’. It’s amazing how time flies.”.

Now, after more than two decades, Neeson is back in live action in the universe created in 1977. “Indeed, I didn’t want anyone else to play Qui-Gon Jinn and I wanted to show my respect for George and the mythical universe he created.” The actor recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “Also, Ewan is a great friend, I loved working with him during ‘The Episode I'”.

To come back … to stay?

The return of Qui-Gon Jinn has been on the mind of every fan of the galactic saga since, at the end of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”, Yoda told Kenobi that there was the possibility of communicating with his. master through the Force, and who would teach him how to do it. While we weren’t able to dig into the subject much in the Disney + series, we finally had a long-awaited comeback.

Anyway, It is not the first time that Neeson returns to embody his character, since he has already given voice, always as a ghost of the Force, in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’. And he will do it again for the new animated series from Lucasfilm and Disney: ‘Tales of the Jedi’. The only thing left to confirm is whether Neeson’s return will remain in this brief cameo or reprise the Jedi guise and lightsaber in some other future live-action project.
