Leigh Whannell is in talks to direct The green hornet and Kato for Universal Pictures. Whannell is the director who brought us films like The invisible man, updateAnd Insidious: Chapter 3. The studio loved what he did with The Invisible Man, so it makes sense that they want to get back in business with him for another project.

The studio already has a script for the film written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Panic Room, War of the Worlds).

Green Hornet is the alter ego of Britt Reid, owner-editor of The daily sentinel. Armed with knowledge of his sources, awesome weapons, a supercar known as Black Beauty, and paired with his hard-hitting aide Kato, Reid has become The Green Hornet, a crime fighter vigilante wanted by the police and feared by the criminal underworld.

Optional universal rights on The Green Hornet by Amasia, which acquired the rights earlier this year with the co-founders of Amasia Michele Helfant And Bradley Gallo to produce. Helfant is a veteran Hollywood executive who served as president and chief operating officer of Marvel Studios for several years starting in 2005.

I’ve always liked the original Green Hornet 1960s series. The most recent release was the 2011 film starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou. It was … ok. As for what we can expect from Whannell’s film, “viewers can expect a more serious action thriller that would work to its strengths.”

What do you think of Whannell’s direction The green hornet and Kato? Is it a movie that you are also interested in watching? Who would you like to see in the cast of the film?
