It is believed that it was performed by Sheb WooleyThe Scream first appeared in the 1951 Distant Drums Warner Brothers film.

The name, however, came a couple of years later when the sound was linked to the private character Wilhelm in the 1953 western The charge to Feather River. Since then, it has become one of the most recognizable audio Easter eggs of cinema.

“This is known as Wilhelm Scream and is one of the longest jokes of the film industry that have been used in over 400 films. In reality it has been in almost all Star Wars and Lord of the Rings films, Indiana Jones and countless others.”

That mix of history and a brazen reuse is what makes the scream so loved among filmmakers and fans. The video disappears the way this small sound design has become a legend of pop culture, showing that sometimes it takes only one scream to leave a lasting mark on Hollywood.
