When Netflix announced it Liam Hemsworth He would enter the role of Geralt of Rivia in the Witcher after the departure of Henry Cavill, the internet broke out of strong opinions.
The reaction was so intense that Hemsworth admits that he had to disappear from social media for most of last year just to block the noise.
“There was a lot of noise and I had to put it aside. It started to become a distraction. I faced a lot of that kind of things in the past and, you know, in the end, I love making films and I love telling stories and acting.
“I don’t want anything of this to influence my way of telling the story I am trying to tell. I jumped away the social media and the internet for most of last year.”
Hemsworth will officially debut as Geralt The Witcher Season 4, which affects Netflix on October 30, and will bring the role to the fifth and last season of the show.
But the transition was not easy for fans. Cavill, who titled the series for three seasons, had created a profound connection with the public. To relieve the blow, Cavill immediately gave Hemsworth his blessing, writing:
“In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take the cloak of the white wolf. As with the greatest literary character, I pass the torch with reverence for the past time by embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see the grip of this more fascinating and nuanced of men.”
Creator of the series Lauren Hissich He revealed that Cavill’s departure was not a sudden decision, but something that had been in progress for a while.
“He had plans for other roles in which he really wanted to commit himself. And for us, you don’t want to keep someone and force them to do something they don’t want to do. I think that’s why it seemed like a truly symbiotic decision.”
Not everyone on the set took the news on the light. Anya Chalotrawho plays Yennefer, admitted that he “shouted” when he learned that Cavill left.
“I remember it so vivid. It really had an impact. We were so tied to these people and to lose such an important member of the team … I put everything in this character. I started [Witcher] Not having a lot of work under the belt and this show means the world for me. So it hurt. “
However, Hissich clarified that the series has never been in danger of ending with the exit of Cavill.
“We have never had serious conversations on the show that does not continue. The show is bigger than an actor. It is bigger than me. There is a series of books, there is a video game. We are the third voice in this. So The Witcher lives or not.”
The last Cavill race while Geralt arrived in the third season, which fell into two parts last summer. Now, all eyes are on Hemsworth while he takes his swords and silver hair in the next chapter of the fantasy epic. Will it be able to do it effectively? We will find out soon.
