The latest trailer for HBO IT: Welcome to Derry confirms that the series will include a family character from another corner of Stephen King’S Universe: Richard “Dick” Hallorann, the psychic chef of Splendor.
Hallorann appeared for the first time in the 1977 King novel Splendor As chief chef of the hotel of Overlook. It is the one who recognizes Danny Torrance’s skills and senses when Jack Torrance falls under the influence of the hotel’s evil spirits.
Over the years, Hallorann has been brought to the screen several times, first by Scatman Crothers In Stanley Kubrick1980 film, and subsequently from Carl Lightly In Mike Flanagan Sleep doctor. Now, with Welcome to Derry Set more than a decade before SplendorThe role was transmitted to Chris Chalkwhich will play a younger version of the character.
The trailer suggests the role of Hallorann in history, showing him to make friends with a family just arrived in Derry, Maine. He warns them that the city has a dark history of disappearances and threateningly says: “Something is coming”.
Just like in SplendorThis young Hallorann also seems to have psychic skills, linking it directly to the supernatural forces in play.
Now, the presence of Hallorann in Welcome to Derry It is not just an intelligent Easter egg, it is rooted in King’s novels. In it (1986), it turns out that Hallorann was a cooking cook at the black spot, a black night club in Derry.
The club later becomes the site of a horrible tragedy when it is burned by white supremacists, a story that will be an important part of the new series.
Director Andy Muschietti He made fun of this fundamental moment in an interview, calling him “a great paroxilism of violence” which reflects “the darkness of history” and “the violence that took place in America”.
When he was asked why Hallorann was brought to the show, Muschietti explained: “For us, it was a kids game. Dick was an exceptional character, not only because he is shining but also because [his] Power is certainly rooted in history. “
With the terror of Pennywise that extends back and now this bitch direct to Splendor, IT: Welcome to Derry An exciting adaptation of Stephen King is announced. Fans will not have to wait long to see how Halloran adapts to history, since the series is previewed on October 26 on HBO.
