It seems that Leatherface could make it the chainsaw again, and this time it could be for television. According to Deadline, A24 is turning the rights to develop a brand new Texas Chainsaw massacre TV series, with JT Mollner, Roy LeeAND Glen Powell According to reports, involved in the project.
Mollner is known for writing Stephen King’s next adaptation The long walkwhile Lee has an impressive track record that produces horror successes like Weapons, The late night with the devil, BarbaricAND IT.
A24 has already left its mark in the world of genre with acclaimed titles like Talk to me, Hereditaryand the X Trilogy, therefore the idea that guide the future of Leatherface is quite exciting for horror fans.
If A24 guarantees the rights, it would limit the competing pitches, including one from Strangers director Bryan Bertino which was intended to be guided by Longlegs director Oz Perkinsas well as another idea of Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan.
The original Texas Chainsaw massacredirected by Tobe HooperAbandoned in 1974 and changed the Slasher landscape forever. The dark journey gone wrong has introduced the world into the terrifying Leatherface, which since then has become one of the most infamous icons of horror.
Over the years, the franchise has generated more sequels and restarted, since 1986 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 to the most recent Netflix attempt in 2022. That film, directed by David Blue Garcia and produced by Alien: Romulus director Fede AlvarezHe did not land exactly with the public and is currently at 31% on Rotten Tomatoes.
They are still the first days, without cast or official details still blocked, but A24 potentially brings their high horror touch to THe massacre of Texas Chainsaw The universe has all the characteristics of something brutal and elegant.
It remains to be seen if this project turns into the final return for Leatherface, but fans probably should start preparing for the sound of that chainsaw.
