Brendan Fraser on what streaming ascent means for the actors: “It means that you have to improve your game”

Brendan Fraser This autumn has returned to the big screen with his next family for rent and has some interesting thoughts on how streaming has changed the way the actors approach their work.

While promoting Tiff’s film with the Hikari director and co-writer, Fraser admitted that streaming has prompted him to be even more selective when choosing projects.

“The audience is more concentrated and have the opportunity to jump next if they want it. I welcome it as a challenge. It means that you have to improve your game and choose more carefully, be better.”

This is exactly the reason why he signed the family for rent, which was previewed at TIFF on September 6 and will arrive in the cinemas on November 21 via Searchlight pictures. In the film, Fraser plays Philip, a working actor in Japan who hires a job as a professional surrogate to help people cope with loss.

For Fraser, it was an opportunity to tell a story other than anything he had seen before. Fraser explained:

“It was so far from everything I had seen. It had to be shot in Japan, Tokyo and in other parts, the nature of the story, being an unusual way to satisfy the needs that people have that they are without a family. It seemed like a film without a bad, in themselves, apart from apathy and that speaks to us at this moment.”

Fraser also shared a lighter moment on his Oscar victory for The whale. It keeps the statue right near the fireplace at home.

“If someone wants to burst and steal it …” he joke. T “here are several scratches because I wear a ring for the thumb and at night it was given to me that I was so tense …”
