It has been announced that early development is underway on a sequel to the next restart of the climbing thriller, Cliffhanger. The reinventation stars Lily James AND Pierce brosnan with Jaume Colle-Serra Direction.
The film is currently in post, and it is not clear right now if the sequel will welcome the same talent or tell a new story. The original of 1993, which took $ 255 million global, played Sylvester Stallone directed by Renny Harlin.
In the film, Brosnan will play an expert mountaineer Ray Cooper, who manages a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with his daughter Sydney.
During a weekend trip with a son of a billionaire, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers. Ray’s daughter, Naomi (James), still persecuted by a past accident with climbing, witnesses the attack and escape. To save his family, he has to face his fears and fight for survival.
James previously described the restart process as “exciting”. The new screenplay is based on a story of Ana Lily Amirpour. Melanie Toast He wrote the last draft.
The film aims at a theatrical version, including an IMAX element, and is destined to hit the screens on April 3, 2026.
