As you know, Stephen King He does not punch in the stories he tells, and was not about to drop Hollywood The long walk. While the dystopian novel heads on the big screen, King revealed the only rule he had for adaptation: the brutal violence had to remain intact.
The author told the London Times that teenagers in his 1979 novel had to reflect the children “dragged into the war machine” of Vietnam, which made the adaptation essential to fully capture brutality.
“If you look at these superhero films, you will see … a super -market that is destroying whole blocks of city but never see blood. And friend, it’s wrong. It’s almost, like, pornographic,” explained King. “I said, if you are not going to show it, don’t worry. And therefore they made a rather brutal movie.”
The long walk He follows 100 young men competing in an annual race on foot through a dark dyeric. The catch? If you stop, you die. Only a walk survived.
At Comic-Con, Lionsgate gave fans a first look at the film by projecting his 20 minutes of opening. Screenwriter JT Mollner He shared his approach, saying that he wanted to remain faithful to King’s vision as he made history resonate for a new generation.
“Even if at the time he was writing about specific things, I feel that the relevance is generational and wanted to make sure he had it. The beauty, love and history of friendship together with the brutality of despair and terror,” said Mollner.
“We wanted to go all the way. I knew that Stephen King wanted him to go all the way. I knew Lionsgate wanted him to go all the way. If this book had entered the wrong hands, in the studio or in the filmmakers. They could have been sterilized. So I am very grateful that we were able to keep the teeth that the book has.”
Directed by Francis Lawrence, The long walk It seems that it will be one of Stephen King’s most intense adaptations. This is not a film that will avoid the darkness of the original novel.
He is destined to hit cinemas on September 12th.
