James Gunn reveals the structure of the power of the DCU: metaumans, governments and corporate giants such as Wayne Enterprises

When it comes to the construction of the world, James Gunn He is not just throwing superheroes in a sandbox. It is laid the foundations for a universe that feels stratified, lived and politically complex.

In a recent conversation with his friend and interviewed of the guest interviewer Rainn WilsonDC Studios’ co-cercade has put the curtain back on what distinguishes the DCU from the Marvel film universe and has mentioned some fascinating dynamics of the world.

So what does the DCU appear? According to Gunn, the real power in this universe is in three forces in competition: Metahumani, governments and society. And yes, this includes Wayne Enterprises.

“It is a different map. It is a world in which some form of superheroes, which we call metumans, has existed for at least 300 years and are part of our life.”

That long story of superpotent beings already gives the tone, but things are becoming even more complicated.

“But I think we are reaching a point in the DCU in which there are three factions. There are metumans, governments and then the companies and companies are equally important.

“There is Lothor Corp, there is Lord Tech and Stagg Industries and Wayne Enterprises, who are the four large companies that are competing for another type of domination.”

And these are not even your evil empires.

“And they are not evil companies, really. I’m alone [frick]amoral core. “

Luthor Corp also gets a little passage of moral gray area here. Despite Lex luthorThe reputation of bad guy, Gunn’s Take paints him with some other shade of shades.

“The companies in itself are not evil. The companies are amoral … Lex Luthor is a rather bad boy, even if his company has done great things. Luthor has created a battery, which has made the management of the world a much more efficient process.

“He has machines that work more efficiently, that are better for clean air. He has done some really fantastic things for the world, which is the reason for his obsession for Superman.

“He was considered the largest boy in the world a few years ago, even if there were metumans, and then this boy with dimples and a glitter in his eyes in a foolish costume and made him feel a shit, so he was a bit obsessed with him since then and became evil …”

Metaumans bring raw power. Governments provide political force. And the companies? They have money, technology and infrastructure to make serious moves in this world. According to reports, with Lord Tech that finances the gang of justice, we are seeing how much these factions are starting to intertwine.

If the private industry can sponsor a superhero team, what prevents a government from doing the same? It is easy to see how this configuration opens the way to projects such as the authority, which Gunn has openly admitted was one of the most complicated pieces to adapt to its great design.

Whether it’s battles of explosive superheroes, shadowing works or corporate manipulation, the DCU is preparing to have everything. Gunn’s world does not only concern good against evil. It concerns power and who is really pulling the ropes.
