In an interview with Screenrant while promoting his next film None 2Tjahjanto explained why he assumed the sequel to the beekeeper from David Ayer.
“I am definitely attracted to the Beekeeper series only because when I saw it, I have always heard that ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham who plays one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, which is the punter.'”
Tjahjanto went further, adding:
“If I can’t make the Punisher movie, if the gods of the film do not allow me to make a Punisher movie, then I will turn Adam Clay into my version of the Punisher.”
He also underlined how Statham naturally adapts to that mold:
“I think Statham has that quality in him. He has that very stoic quality of Frank Castle.
The director has also made fun of what fans can expect when it comes to the bad guys in the sequel.
“Another thing that attracts me is definitely the escalation of how big the bad guys are in this film. So, you can wait for it.”
For now, Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed The beekeeper 2 It is under development, but the official release date has not yet been revealed.
