James Cameron wants to expand the world of Avatar with an animated anthology project

The world of Avatar It could expand again but this time in animated form. James Cameronthe mind behind Avatar AND Avatar: the water of the waterHe is observing a completely new means to explore Pandora’s rich mythology.

While some fan count on the days up to Avatar: fire and ash Turn on theaters in December, Cameron is already planting seeds for a potential series of animated anthologies that could immerse himself more deeply in the stories not told of his science fiction universe.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Cameron revealed that he spoke with Disney of the launch of a Avatar Animated project. He shared his vision by saying:

“I said: ‘Look, I want to make a series of animated anthologies that is essentially in the world, but stories that you would not have expected from that world.” There may also be an animated function in there: it could be a function for streaming or a theatrical feature.

“A good initial example is the Animetrix, in which they went in advance in the world of Matrix. These are all great examples on how we can add plot and baroque details to the world of Avatar.”

What Cameron speaks of incredibly beautiful. He is not just thinking of re -proposing the same characters or events. He wants to go wide with it. Deep cuts. Background. Secondary missions. The type of expansions of the traditions that fans eat.

“Rackstory on characters and tangential things that took place outside the camera in the movies. Who landed for the first time on Pandora? The first expedition. You could go wherever you want.”

Of course, this idea is still under development and has not passed beyond the brainstorming phase.

“We haven’t done much yet with this. We are still collecting our stories and that kind of things, and I have to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, who want to do it.”

So, although there is still no official Greenlight, just knowing that Cameron is seriously intent on bringing more Avatar Stories to life in animation is quite interesting. The franchise has already shown that it has the depth and scale to support spin-offs and secondary stories and the animation could be the perfect playground for creative experimentation in Avatar universe.

In the meantime, fans can prepare Avatar: fire and ashwhich is previewed in cinemas on 19 December 2025. The film sees Sam Worldington He returns like Jake Sully, together with Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Falco editionAnd more.
