Arnold Schwarzenegger is not ready to leave Conan the barbarian Vanish in the past. Over 40 years after oscillating for the first time that tough swords on the big screen, the legend of the action is still hoping for a return to the brutal fantastic world of Robert E. Howard.
While promoting Fubar Season 2 on Netflix, Schwarzenegger has reflected on his career and admitted that there are some roles that he would like to revisit … starting from Conan.
“Sometimes I wish we could do more conan sequels, because I think that if you have the right director and the right writing, there could be a really good franchise, really good to continue King Conan and things like that,” Schwarzenegger said in an interview with Collider. “So I mean, there are many films that have made that they could have a sequel.”
The original Conan the barbarian hit the theaters in 1982, directed by Giovanni Milius and co-scored by Oliver Stone. Made Schwarzenegger a family name, bringing to a sequel in 1984, Conan the destroyer. A third film, Conan the conquerorIt was planned but in the end it turned into the 1997 flop Kull the conqueror.
The franchise is not dead, however. Conan has returned to comics, novels, games, two animated shows and even a short -lived live TV series in the 90s. Jason Momoa I tried his hand to the role in 2011, but the restart was not so good. In 2020, Netflix and the first videos both flirted with new adaptations, but those interviews seem to have blocked.
There was a moment in 2012 in which the stars have almost aligned with Schwarzenegger’s return as an older conan lingered. The project, entitled Conan’s legendHe had to follow the plot of King Conan, with Chris Morgan AND Federico Malmberg produce e Andrea Berloff Write the screenplay. Schwarzenegger has advertised him for years, but in 2017 Morgan confirmed that Universal had killed the film.
Morgan had previously made fun of the way the film would open: “It opens with this [hand on the chin]. It’s where you have to. It is the sequel that had been promised to us and that has never been. I am 11 years old when my father led me to see Conan the barbarian that you should never take an 11 -year -old boy.
“It was something that changed life. It is an incredible film. Back to [director John] Milius, right? There is no one better and it’s a real movie. It is a truthful film. Chris and I from the beginning said that there is no reason to do it unless it is a worthy sequel to Conan di Milius and I think we understand. I really do it. “
Morgan has also previously described his version of Conanwhich is initially what he excited me for this project:
“I want the warrior whose joints have started to merge together, that he has to break the cartilage so that he can collect a sword again. I want the boy who has not necessarily lost a step, but there is a little rust that he has to shake. I want to embrace it. It makes it a greater story of heroes.
“Conan must be faced with the challenges. The greatest challenge for him are not the armies that are placed in front of him.
Could it still happen? If Schwarzenegger’s passion is an indication, fans should not yet give up hope. Until then, you can capture the Austrian oak in season 2 of Fubar, now streaming on Netflix.
Would you like to see Arnold back like Conan for one last adventure? Or should the barbarian saga stay in the past?
